After the storm that struck the Buenos Aires city of Bahía Blanca and left at least 13 fatalities, residents faced difficulties in communicating due to the lack of electricity and limited phone signal. Many were in need of finding places to charge their cell phones in order to contact their loved ones.
Among the alternatives that residents found, the possibility of charging their devices at gas stations with their own generators or at locations provided by the National Gendarmerie stood out. In places like Alem Avenue and Mayo Park, people were seen going to large trucks set up by the federal force to get some charge for their mobile phones.
In this scenario, some testimonies reflected the anguish and need to stay connected amidst the crisis. Alejandro, accompanied by his son, expressed the difficulty he faced in not being able to communicate with his family, while Marta was grateful to have light at the gas station to at least send messages to her cousins, from whom she hadn't heard in a long time.
Meanwhile, the city suffered severe consequences from the heavy rains, with flooded streets, vehicles swept away by water, and cuts in the supply of basic services such as drinking water. In light of this situation, local authorities urged the population to take precautions, especially due to the instability of the soil and the possibility of tree falls caused by strong winds.
Amid the devastation caused by the weather phenomenon, solidarity manifested through charging points set up by different entities. Despite the inconveniences, the inhabitants of Bahía Blanca sought to stay connected, once again demonstrating the importance of technology in emergency situations.
